Hi, I’m french-rose. This is my studio.
INTRODUCTION Situated in the heart of a tiny, medieval, hilltop village in southwest France, Atelier de la Rose has been providing creative breaks for artists and writers since 1991. It was founded by artist Ed Herring and art historian Sally Gaucheron. The studio is most suitable for those working in two dimensions and/or with words. It is right next to the guest wing where you have your own room. There is also a fully equipped bathroom, separate WC, sitting room, a small fridge and a washing machine. You have access to the large terrace, the courtyard and the garden that goes down to the surrounding woodland. Sally lives in a separate building, so she is always on hand if you need her help while giving you complete independence. The price quoted includes breakfast and dinner with wine. There are no cooking facilities, but you get the best of Sally's cooking based on locally resourced fresh produce. She can adapt the menu to suit most dietary restrictions. There is also a possibility of having a light lunch for a supplement. The studio is not available between 15th November and 15th March. THE STUDIO This is a conversion of a centuries-old stone building with a terra cotta-tiled floor and an oak-beamed ceiling. The floor area is 7 X 5 metres, the height is 2.5 metres. Daylight illumination is by three sets of French windows. Supplementary lighting is by fluorescent tubes and halogen spotlights. The French windows open out in three directions: the private terrace-garden, the main terrace and the courtyard. There is therefore a considerable extension of available working space in fine weather. Easels (portable and studio types), drawing boards (3 sizes), folding portable chairs are provided. There is a large table and a smaller one to work on. If you need large white walls to pin extensive pieces of work on then this studio is not for you. Most artists either prop up their stretched canvases or stick them to some of the large drawing boards which can then be propped up on a wall. The studio is exclusively yours if you book. Companions are welcome. ACCOMMODATION You have your own double-bedded room in the guest wing. You may have to share the bathroom and toilet facilities if the second bedroom is let (Atelier de la Rose also provides a basic bed and breakfast service, being a night stop for those on the Santiago trial). The Wifi signal works in the guest wing, in the studio, on the terrace, in the courtyard and in the garden. LENGTH OF STAY from 5 days (6 nights) to 6 weeks. PRICES The price quoted above is an average price, the cost becoming more attractive the longer you stay. Here are some half-board prices for one artist or writer, including an extra night's accommodation, breakfasts and dinner with wine: 5 days - 412 euros; 14 days - 989 euros; 20 days - 1,340 euros. Extra days are possible at 60 to 70 euros per day, depending on your length of stay. TRAVEL If you do not have your own transport you can be collected from certain train stations (Cahors, Agen, Monsempron-Libos) for a supplement. The nearest bus stop is 6 kms away and you can be collected from this neighbouring village for no charge. The nearest international airport is Bergerac (serving Western Europe: mainly England, Holland, Belgium). As there is no public transport to or from the airport you can arrange to be collected for a supplement. Sally will advise you further on travel if you wish, or you can refer to the web site : https://www.french-rose.com
